MURUKU / THENKUZHAL

INGREDIENTS:

Rice flour                 - 2 Cups
Urad flour                - 3/4 Cups
Butter                      - 5 Tsp
Sesame seeds           - 1 Tsp
Zeera / Cumin seeds - 1 Tsp
Asafoetida               - 1 Tsp
Salt                          - As needed
Water                      - As needed
Oil                          - for deep frying

HOW TO MAKE:

Heat a pan and dry roast the sesame and cumin seeds together till the aroma comes.  In a bowl add rice flour, urad flour, butter, roasted seeds, asafoetida and salt and add water as needed to make a soft dough as shown in the below picture.

Pour enough oil in a deep frying pan and heat the same.  Fill the dough in the muruku press with the exact muruku plate.  Grease some oil in the press as well as on the plate or the laddles which you going to use to make muruku. Make muruku in the plates or the laddle first, then put them in the oil one by one.  In one batch we can always make 4 to 5 murukus.

Cook both sides until the oil bubble sounds disappear and drain the murukus in the paper towel.

Allow it to cool down and store it in a air tight containter.  Crispy and Crunchy murukus are ready to munch :-)
